Great stuff from John Lackey, who got his 100th ever win as an Angel. He allowed merely five hits with 1 ER, though it was based on an error by a teammate.

This gave the Angels a greatly needed victory. The team had lost two of the first 3 meetings in its matchups with the Athletics.

Lackey kept the team close against Brett Anderson until they were at long last able to score in bunches. Four in the 5th, five in the 8th. This was ample run support to win the game.

Two three-run HRs - one from Torii Hunter, the second on behalf of Kendry Morales - made up the majority of the runs. Morales continues to amaze all fans of the team.

"We're not going to give them back," Angels skipper Mike Scioscia claimed. "We will take them."

Not much to speak of. A sound day all around for LA - defensively, as far as offense goes and with respect to pitching. It took the team 5 innings to get to Brett Anderson, but that's no surprise.

Anderson brought a perfect game into the seventh inning versus the team in July. Bobby Abreu homered during the tenth inning during that game to give the team a 1-0 win. Things were noticeably very changed this occasion.

Morales made a newborn franchise milestone for RBIs in the month of August with 33, cracking Bobby Bonds' long-standing milestone of 31 (Aug. 1977). ... Lackey won his hundredth game as a part of the Angels and is 65 wins behind stalwart Chuck Finley....

The Angels earned their 40th comeback win of the year.... Fourteen of the last sixteen wins at Angel Stadium have been come from behind victories.

The franchise now possesses a 77-52 standing, on top of the American League West division by 5.0 games. The Rangers are the team's nearest competition. With solely a few weeks of baseball remaining, the playoff chcances of the Angels are seeming reasonably respectable.
