Can You Use A Wooden Bat In Little League?

My son is 12 and plays little league. He is a very tall 12 year old at 6 feet. He is a very strong boy, and finds the little metal bats to be too short and too light. He wants to use one of his wooden bats, but his coach said that they are not allowed. Is this true? I always thought that they could use wooden bats, but sometimes discouraged them due to their heaviness.
Thanks for your input.

It depends on the league and the rules they have.
Most allow the use of wooden bats like mine.
Also, our 11-13 age group does have a limit to a bat’s length and weight, so you should check those rules first to get the heaviest bat possible.
I think the use of wooden bats is discouraged because an aluminum bat will make the ball go farther, although there has been talk of discontinuing use of aluminum bats due to the ball coming off of an aluminum bat harder and faster than a wooden bat would allow.
depends on the league. ive umpired in the same league since 1999, and they used to not allow wood, but now they do. they say its a safety hazard for the broken bats, but i think its just as unsafe, if not worse, with the ball speed off the metal bats going straight to the pitcher.
also, ncaa still uses metal, so there must be a bat out there that will fit your son’s needs. he maybe big for 12, but if 20 year olds have bats, he can find one.
Yes it is perfectly fine, although the barrel has to be 2 1/4 inches other than that you can find him one the perfect size.
wooden bats are not only allowed, but should be used more often.
Just get like a 34 inch metal bat
