This year some teams are being just phenomenal. The Phillies, the new owners of the Cy Young winner Cliff Lee, very well have a chance at making the big series. This year has brought many surprises and has had some teams that some people thought would never stand a chance.
There have been disappointments this season as well. Some teams who had high playoff hopes are all but mathematically eliminated at this point.
So far this season many teams have had a struggle. Others, however, are flying through this season like it's a breeze. The Nationals are one of the teams that are struggling. The Nats are in dead last in the whole league. We can count them out of the playoffs.
The same goes for the Orioles, Pirates, Padres, Athletics, Royals, Blue Jays, Indians, Twins, Mets, Diamondbacks, Reds, Astros, and Brewers. That leaves a remaining 16 teams. We must eliminate more.
Now comes the Wild Card Race. The Red Sox are currently leading the American League race, while the Rockies are holding on in the National league. Now as the race stands I believe that the Red Sox will hold on, but in the National league I think that it will be a closer race.
If this were the case, the Yanks, Sox, Tigers, and Angels would round out the American League playoff picture and the Braves, Cards, Dodgers, and Phillies would represent the National League.
Most are predicting the Yankees and Phillies to come out on top in each league, though teams like the Dodgers and Angels are seriously looking great. While I do think that there's a chance that the Dodgers could emerge in the National League, I don't see the Angels as strong enough in the American League, especially when it comes to their starting pitching staff. If anyone, the Tigers may stand a better chance. However, here's what I think will end up happening:
The 2009 World Series champions will be the Phillies, over the Yankees. There, I said it.
