Frozen Rope

All I keep reading on here is how bad the ratings are going to be for the World Series between the Phillies and Rays. Does everyone on here work for FOX or something? When did how high the ratings are become more important then the teams that are actually playing? Enlighten me all you baseball experts on Y!A.

The Contenders in Baseball This Season

This year some teams are being just phenomenal. The Phillies, the new owners of the Cy Young winner Cliff Lee, very well have a chance at making the big series. This year has brought many surprises and has had some teams that some people thought would never stand a chance.

There have been disappointments this season as well. Some teams who had high playoff hopes are all but mathematically eliminated at this point.

So far this season many teams have had a struggle. Others, however, are flying through this season like it's a breeze. The Nationals are one of the teams that are struggling. The Nats are in dead last in the whole league. We can count them out of the playoffs.

The same goes for the Orioles, Pirates, Padres, Athletics, Royals, Blue Jays, Indians, Twins, Mets, Diamondbacks, Reds, Astros, and Brewers. That leaves a remaining 16 teams. We must eliminate more.

Now comes the Wild Card Race. The Red Sox are currently leading the American League race, while the Rockies are holding on in the National league. Now as the race stands I believe that the Red Sox will hold on, but in the National league I think that it will be a closer race.

If this were the case, the Yanks, Sox, Tigers, and Angels would round out the American League playoff picture and the Braves, Cards, Dodgers, and Phillies would represent the National League.

Most are predicting the Yankees and Phillies to come out on top in each league, though teams like the Dodgers and Angels are seriously looking great. While I do think that there's a chance that the Dodgers could emerge in the National League, I don't see the Angels as strong enough in the American League, especially when it comes to their starting pitching staff. If anyone, the Tigers may stand a better chance. However, here's what I think will end up happening:

The 2009 World Series champions will be the Phillies, over the Yankees. There, I said it.

If you're anxious for the MLB post-season to start, get in on some more action at RootZoo's MLB pick 'em game. Play some baseball trivia and enjoy yourself.

Product Description

The Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Series Collector's Edition begins where it should, with the final games in the Phillies' pre-World Series, post-season contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's exciting to revisit the Phillies' comeback in the eighth inning of game four, when they were down 5 to 3 but rallied on home runs by Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs. Watching winning pitcher Cole Hamels shut down the Dodgers in game five demonstrates why he was named series MVP. Moving on to the Phillies' domination over the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, this box set neatly packages each game on its own disc in a plastic case covered in vital information: player statistics, the temperature during the game, stadium attendance, etc. Additionally, each disc includes the option to listen to alternative broadcasts of a game, one from the Phillies Radio Network, the other from the Rays' equivalent.

All of the series' highlights are here, including the seven innings that Hamels pitched in game one, allowing only two runs. Game two is still painful to watch, even in retrospect, for Phillies' fans, as the Rays tie the series with the help of starting pitcher James Shields, who gives up no runs in five-and-a-half innings. As everyone knows, the Phillies sweep the next three games, struggling for a win in game three as the teams duke it out on offense. The drama of the 2008 World Series, of course, came with game five, when the Phillies and the Rays faced the same opponent: Philadelphia rain. It's great fun viewing again the protracted question of what to do with a field that was becoming laughable in its muddy, watery condition. The decision to suspend the contest at the bottom of the sixth inning still conveys its historic impact, i.e., the fact that no World Series game had ever been called off while in session. Add to that the excitement, two days later, of picking up where everything left off, both teams playing those final innings with great energy and competition, and you can't beat this box set. A special, bonus DVD includes a number of highlights from the entire series. --Tom Keogh

A Must Have

Review Date: July 11, 2010
Reviewer: sassy,
I bought this book for my father as a present. He loved it (of course) as any Phillies baseball fan will tell you...it's a must have!!!

I bought this DVD set as a present. It came in new condition and was exactly what I expected. The person I bought it for loves it and has been watching last years games along with this year's World Series.
It doesn't get any better for Phillies Phans!

What a great package. For Phillies Phans it just cannot get any better, except for a two-peat. One recommendation is to shut off McCarver and Buck. They are really annoying and NEVER stop the yada yada yada. By the fifth game you won't be sure who is winning the series. Listen to the Phillies broadcast for true bliss. Now its time to wait for Phillies 2009 World Series Collector's Edition. The Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Series Collector's Edition
A Wonderful Walk Down Memory Lane - Well Done!

Review Date: May 28, 2009
Reviewer: Zzyzx Oh, USA, East Coast
As the pricing on this started to dip from the initial offering, Harry The K died while preparing for a 2009 game broadcast in Washington. I ordered this set although I already owned the single disk World Series summary.

The set is great, starting with the season highlights disk and going through all the games, beginning with the last games of the NLCS. Having the choice of which broadcasters to listen to during viewing is a nice option that keeps the viewing fresh. And it's surprising how quickly the memory muddles things up, like who got what hit when. I'm sure that is due to how stressful it was to watch the first time, but it's a real joy to watch for a life-long Phillies fan.
GO PHILLIES!!

This is an excellent summary of the Phillies 2008 World Series victory. It is especially wonderful now that Harry Kalas has passed. I can hear his voice any time I want by playing these DVDs. Can't beat that.
