Better than a T

Review Date: July 23, 2010
Reviewer: edith schatz,
We were looking for something that would help my grandson with eye hand co-ordination for his little league games, were they use a pitching machine.
This definetly is easy to set up & use by a 7year old. Can also point it into the air for catching. Ours came with a BONUS adapter for electrical use, no batteries needed !
A disappointment! No consistency or power for it to really serve its purpose.

We bought this for my 5 year old son who's been playing baseball since he was 2. He's been hitting pitches for 2 and a half years now without any trouble and has played 2 seasons in a coach pitch league. We got this for him since he was bored using a T in the backyard and was wearing us out asking us to pitch to him all the time. We loaded it up with batteries and set it up outside for him to play with and he was SO excited. The first 5 pitches took forever to get geared up and actually leave the chute, some flew way over his head, and others just dribbled out. I think after an hour of trying to get it functioning (even moving it so it was shooting downhill, etc.) he had one hittable ball. It was really disappointing that it had no consistency. We returned it and are holding out for a higher quality pitching machine. One thing I can say about it is that it's not dangerous, so you don't have to worry about your child getting smacked really hard by a ball. But if you're looking for something that will keep your little slugger busy, this isn't it.

We ordered for our nephew's Christmas present. The quality was excellent and works good. He loved his gift. We also ordered the dimple training balls to go with the power pitcher.
Need to be creative to find accessories

I purchased this product for my 8 year old who just finished a season of coach pitch baseball. He is really happy with the machine & has already hit 3 of the 4 included foam balls into our bushes where they may never be found again.

I read reviews on this product that stated that it went through batteries very quickly - we didn't find this to be true. However, I did try to purchase the power adapter from the manufacturer, only to find that they no longer offer it. Well, to remedy this I went to my local Radio Shack & purchased a 5 VDC power adapter and a blue connector - works great!

I have also searched for replacement foam baseballs for the machine; similar story from the manufacturer, but again, taking the last original ball to Dick's Sporting Goods allowed me to find matching products that fit. I purchased the Power Bolt 12 pack of practice baseballs & these also work very well. The diameter of the ball is 2-3/4 inches. Getting the right size is important for fitting the baseballs in the machine. We were also able to use Franklin "whiffle" balls, but they didn't behave as well as the solid foam balls.

I would have given this product a 5 if the manufacturer would have provided support.

Tim Wakefield throws 50mph knuckleballs and wins tons of games. Slowball guys like Jamie Moyer and Greg Maddux are still getting it done. Trevor Hoffman hasn't hit 95 on the gun since John F. Kennedy was President, and he racks up saves every year. I'm starting to wonder if it's even necessary to have a 90mph fastball, or if control and location are where its at. What do you think?

I was watching the Brewers versus Orioles game last night and the Orioles pitcher, instead of throwing the pitch normal over home plate, threw it into the ground about half way to home plate and it bounced up and over home plate. He pitched the whole inning like this. What type of pitching is that?

i want one preferably under 300.00$ and i want to be able to batting practice and most importantly field fly balls with it

A quality start is going at least 6 innings and giving up as few runs as possible.

The best possible batting average a player can get is a perfect 1.000, meaning he gets a hit every time he comes to bat.
Pitcher have had 1.000 averages, but only two plate appearances.
The lowest possible ERA for a pitcher is 0.00, meaning no earned runs were charged to the pitcher. DOOP pitcher have a tendancy to own a 0.00 ERA, however only pitching an inning or so.

Dustin Nippert Looks Good for Rangers

Dustin Nippert laid out his case for keeping the No. five slot in the Texas Rangers' starting rotation of pitchers in the Rangers' 5.0-two victory versus the Blue Jays in the 1st half of Tuesday's doubleheader. Next up, Brandon McCarthy, making his first appearance because departing the pitching rotation in early June for the disabled list.

Nippert displayed far superior finesse than in his latest outing last week at Yankee Stadium. In the Bronx, he surrendered eleven base runners (four hits, 7 bases on balls) and only forced eleven outs. On Tuesday afternoon, he inched out of trouble to secure his fifth win of the year and 3rd as a starting pitcher. Nippert let up 5 hits, and walked merely one. He lessened his earned run average as a starting pitcher to 4.43 and on the whole to 3.91. It was his third respectable game in his most recent five outings.

Nippert said there really wasn't much disparity between how he threw last week and on Tuesday: "Truly able to pitch strikes. In NY, I believe I pitched one slider for a strike. The bigger predicament I put myself in, I tried more to get beyond it. I was merely going the wrong way. I kept walking men, trying to make that perfect pitch.

"Yesterday, I was able to pitch it early in the count, behind in the count. Keep 'em off my fastball."

Insisted skipper Ron Washington: "I don't think he was overthrowing. He was spreading things around with his change-up and his breaking pitches. Increased the speed of his fastball."

Washington and Nippert together indicated Nippert wasn't pitching to protect his spot in the pitching rotation. Furthermore Nippert claimed he'll gladly start or come out of the bullpen. Since the Rangers are in post-season pursuit, each player's role increases in magnitude.

"I only wish to help out this team," he insisted. "It's good for us that we have further arms currently. Whomever's playing good baseball you may choose to start.

Take a second to visit the baseball forum at RootZoo. Play football pick 'em and tons of other games too.

ok so on my fantasy baseball team. I have 3 starter picthing that day. then 3 empty slots. can I put relief pitchers there for me to get points? or can i pick up more starting pitchers pitching that day to put in there. so do the P slots get points for me if a pitcher is in that slot and pitchiing that day
