Tim Wakefield throws 50mph knuckleballs and wins tons of games. Slowball guys like Jamie Moyer and Greg Maddux are still getting it done. Trevor Hoffman hasn't hit 95 on the gun since John F. Kennedy was President, and he racks up saves every year. I'm starting to wonder if it's even necessary to have a 90mph fastball, or if control and location are where its at. What do you think?

I was watching the Brewers versus Orioles game last night and the Orioles pitcher, instead of throwing the pitch normal over home plate, threw it into the ground about half way to home plate and it bounced up and over home plate. He pitched the whole inning like this. What type of pitching is that?

A quality start is going at least 6 innings and giving up as few runs as possible.

The best possible batting average a player can get is a perfect 1.000, meaning he gets a hit every time he comes to bat.
Pitcher have had 1.000 averages, but only two plate appearances.
The lowest possible ERA for a pitcher is 0.00, meaning no earned runs were charged to the pitcher. DOOP pitcher have a tendancy to own a 0.00 ERA, however only pitching an inning or so.

Dustin Nippert laid out his case for keeping the No. five slot in the Texas Rangers' starting rotation of pitchers in the Rangers' 5.0-two victory versus the Blue Jays in the 1st half of Tuesday's doubleheader. Next up, Brandon McCarthy, making his first appearance because departing the pitching rotation in early June for the disabled list.
Nippert displayed far superior finesse than in his latest outing last week at Yankee Stadium. In the Bronx, he surrendered eleven base runners (four hits, 7 bases on balls) and only forced eleven outs. On Tuesday afternoon, he inched out of trouble to secure his fifth win of the year and 3rd as a starting pitcher. Nippert let up 5 hits, and walked merely one. He lessened his earned run average as a starting pitcher to 4.43 and on the whole to 3.91. It was his third respectable game in his most recent five outings.
Nippert said there really wasn't much disparity between how he threw last week and on Tuesday: "Truly able to pitch strikes. In NY, I believe I pitched one slider for a strike. The bigger predicament I put myself in, I tried more to get beyond it. I was merely going the wrong way. I kept walking men, trying to make that perfect pitch.
"Yesterday, I was able to pitch it early in the count, behind in the count. Keep 'em off my fastball."
Insisted skipper Ron Washington: "I don't think he was overthrowing. He was spreading things around with his change-up and his breaking pitches. Increased the speed of his fastball."
Washington and Nippert together indicated Nippert wasn't pitching to protect his spot in the pitching rotation. Furthermore Nippert claimed he'll gladly start or come out of the bullpen. Since the Rangers are in post-season pursuit, each player's role increases in magnitude.
"I only wish to help out this team," he insisted. "It's good for us that we have further arms currently. Whomever's playing good baseball you may choose to start.

ok so on my fantasy baseball team. I have 3 starter picthing that day. then 3 empty slots. can I put relief pitchers there for me to get points? or can i pick up more starting pitchers pitching that day to put in there. so do the P slots get points for me if a pitcher is in that slot and pitchiing that day
